Trip Number 9  2013 Season
April 12-14, 2013
Kronenstadt Ski Club
Pasadena, California
Trip Leader  Rita
Karen and I arrived at Eagle Lodge parking lot at 9:30 am Friday morning and there were only about 40 cars. Then we walked up to the lift and saw why. There was only a thin ribbon of relocated snow as the path from the mountain to the chairlift. The rest of the area was dirt. Both
Canyon and Eagle will be closed after next weekend. Skiing was not very fun, with icy slopes at the top, and slush at the bottom.  It was a really warm day. Lunch at McCoys' and now you don't get a roll with your soup!  Maybe it really is the cost and not the bad snow that kept the mountain devoid of skiers.
Eagle Lodge and Chair 15 getting ready for spring.
Very nice dinner at Whiskey Creek with Harry and Maxine. Then to the Outlet stores and back to the condo for an early to bed. The rest of the group, Rita, Kip & Mary Jo are just now in Lone Pine and arrive around 11:30 pm. Breakfast and then out to what we thought would be more of the
same. Snow as just as bad, but then a really cold wind kicked in. Once the sustained winds exceeded 35 MPH the chairlifts started to shut down and trap you in the wind. And then the upper ones closed altogether. We did get in one run on the Cornice. It skied like it had been groomed with a zamboni. By 2:00 pm I had had enough and decided to go watch the masters golf. But first had to water ski down to Eagle. A little scary.
Top of Mammoth at Chair 23 looking back to Sherwin Bowl.
Rita, Kip and Mary Jo being blow away by the wind. The green flags changed to blue when the chairlifts closed.
Rita prepared a delicious ham dinner with a lollieberry pie and ice cream for dessert. Karen then prepared ham sandwiches, which we all ate for lunch at Main Lodge the next day. I expected Sunday to be just as bad as Saturday, but the runs softened a little and the grooming made for good skiing. Chair 3 and the Upper Gondola both closed, but I finished out the ski year with two runs down the Cornice from Chair 23.  Not the best of weekends, but still great to be with friends.
We all left for home by 2:00 pm.
Ella (Bruce & Judy's
granddaughter) and her peeps.
The end of another ski season. I only snowboard on powder days, and only got to board one day out of 18 this year. Not a great record. This means another year short of water so please don't waste it.

See you all at the Summer party. Still being planned. Stay tuned for up dates.

Thanks to Fran & Chris & Christel and Karen for being a Great Board. And to Kip & Harry & Mary Jo & Rita, & Barbara & Fran & Christel & Karen who ran the Great trips. We still need lots of help to run a Club, so please volunteer where you can.

Yours in deep powder (next year), Bruce.
Karen & Woolly.
