The Potala Palace, Lhasa, Tibet, home of the Dali Llama. The 700 steps to the top are made even harder due to the 12,000 ft altitude. In April, 2016, Bruce and Judy traveled to China and Tibet.
The daily 3 pm monks debating session at the Sera Monastery in Lhasa. Becoming a Monk
requires a lifetime of study. All things pertaining to life are debated in this open air garden.
The highlight of the trip for me was climbing the Great Wall. This part has all been rebuilt
and is in good shape. I climbed to Smoke Tower # 7, about twice as far as the tower on the hill. There were already walls around most cities, and the Emperor connected them to make the Great Wall.
In September, 2016, nine current and former Kronies along with 7 other friends traveled to Sicily. In a restaurant in Maraza, we all learned from a Sicilian Chef how to cook an Italian dinner. Pizza, Pesto, pasta and dessert. Christel led the trip and was joined by Fran, Bruce, Gloria and Julie, all active members. Our 24 year old guide could not believe that we had been skiing together for 40 years. We visited a ski area at 6000 feet on Mt Etna that was buried in lava in 2002, but back is operation when the snow falls.
At a dairy farm in Castelluccio, Sicily, we all helped prepare lunch; made bread, ricotta cheese, tiaramasu, picked vegetables and milked a cow. Can you find 8 Kronies in the photo and Guide Luca? The rest are friends and the family of farmers.
Syndey Opera House. Still the best known modern building in the world. Bruce and Judy saw it on the inside and went to a play there during a 5 week trip Down Under in October, 2017.
